Jimco Software Reviews - trueSpace 6.6 (continued)

Animation in trueSpace

One need only check out the samples on Caligari's Web site to gain an appreciation for the stunning animation quality in trueSpace. One thing that's important to mention is that trueSpace does not require you to key frame everything for animation. It has a physics engine built into it so that you can apply a specific material setting to an object, set it in motion, and it will behave just as it would in the real world.

As an example, I created a simple set of stairs and then placed a sphere just above the top step. I added some forward spin in trueSpace and then set the sphere's properties so that it would act like rubber. Once I set things in motion, the ball proceeded to bounce down the steps as you can see in this short video. This animation was created in about 3 minutes.

Conclusion

trueSpace is an application almost certainly unlike any other you've ever used. It produces renderings of the highest quality I've seen anywhere (and has many more capabilities that I've not covered) at a fraction of the cost of other high-end packages. Don't let the cost fool you, though. trueSpace has the professional-level tools that are required for anyone who takes 3D graphics seriously. At the same time, trueSpace's unique interface is welcoming to those with no experience at all.

Highly Recommended
