Jimco Software Reviews - trueSpace 6.6 (continued)
Figure 9 shows a rendered object with the default gray material applied. The lighting looks fine, but the object doesn't look believable because the material is not convincing. In fact, you can clearly see the imperfections in the model.

In figure 10, I've applied a material from Darkling Simulations's excellent Simbiont plug-in for trueSpace, a free plug-in available from their Web site. After applying the material, the object takes on a completely new light and is now indistinguishable from a real object.

These images also give you a taste of the excellent output you can expect from trueSpace. The renders that trueSpace generates are every bit as good as packages costing many times more. In fact, trueSpace is famous for offering outstanding features and output quality at a price that is, quite frankly, unbelievably low.
Figure 11 shows the same object rendered with a different material (wood this time) and with a spotlight illuminating it. I've applied volumetrics to the light so that the beam is visible.

I did frequently encounter an error while rendering as I was writing this review. Upon researching the error on Caligari's Web site, I found that many people are experiencing the same issue and there appears to be no information as to why it's happening at the moment. However, I've been a trueSpace user for many years, and I am confident that Caligari will locate any issues and resolve them.
