Introduction
I first saw trueSpace in a 3D graphics magazine. I've always been a fan of 3D graphics applications and I enjoy reading 3D trade magazines and drooling over high-dollar software that I know I'll never be able to afford. trueSpace was different. Sure, it was drool-worthy, but it was also affordable!
I downloaded the demo of verison 4 of trueSpace and I was absolutely amazed by it. The interface was like nothing I had seen before. One of the things that keeps many people away from 3D applications is their complexity. The myriad of buttons and menus in most 3D applications is enough to dissuade even the technical elite. In contrast, when I first launched trueSpace, I was struck by the simplicity of the interface. trueSpace hides the complexity by presenting its tools right within the scene and by showing you only those tools that apply in any particular situation. It's an effective technique and one that Caligari has mastered over the years.
That first experience was many years ago. trueSpace is now at version 6.6, and what was once an extraordinary and unique piece of software has become even more extraordinary! In fact, I am going to have a hard time containing my excitement throughout this review. You are going to feel like I'm hyping this application, and indeed I may be doing just that. But trust me. trueSpace 6.6 deserves it.
Download the demo and you'll see exactly what I mean. It's a pretty large download, so kick it off and then sit back and read my review while you wait. By the end of this review, your hands will be sweating in anticipation for the trueSpace experience!
Note: I will review many features in trueSpace, but there's no possible way to show nearly everything you can do with trueSpace in this review.
