Jimco Software Reviews - SWiSHvideo (continued)
The Tools Menu
From the Tools menu, you can manage the list of
controls in SWiSHvideo or import your own control from a Flash
movie file. The documentation explains how you can create
your own controls using SWiSHmax or Macromedia Flash. The
Tools menu also allows you to choose from a preset list of
compressions based upon bandwidth as shown in figure 5.
We tested these settings by sending links to friends and family
of video encoded with the preset for the bandwidth we knew they
were using. In all cases, they were able to view the video
smoothly and with a pleasant experience.

Conclusion
SWiSHvideo is a great program for producing
video for the Web, but there are plenty of areas for
improvement, most noticeable of which is in documentation.
We found it to be a great tool for converting video to Flash
video format as well, but strangely enough, SWiSHzone.com does
not support this format in their own Flash tool, SWiSHmax.
Perhaps in a later version. If you're looking to
move video the Web and you aren't bothered by some of the black
box settings due to insufficient documentation, SWiSHvideo may
be the perfect tool for your needs. We were quite
disappointed in the lack of widescreen support (that should be a
standard for any video product), but SWiSHvideo is still a
capable product that's easy to use and fast.
We give SWiSHvideo three stars because of its
lack of widescreen support and insufficient documentation.
If the basic settings are enough for you and if you aren't
interested in widescreen support, you'll likely find no
shortcomings in this excellent product.
