Jimco Software Reviews - ShuttlePRO V.2 (continued)
Rating
This device will easily pay for itself in just a few jobs with the time you'll save using it.
Usability : 5/5
This rating was a no-brainer. There simply isn't any conceivable way that this device can earn a less then perfect score in usability. Anything that becomes a required part of your tool set this quickly is a winner in my book.
Interface : 3/5
The interface of the Control Panel earns a 3 out of 5. It lost a point because the system tray icon doesn't work according to the Windows standard. You can't double-click it to bring up the Control Panel. Instead, you left-click on it once and then select the Control Panel from the menu. This adds an extra step and is not as productive as it could be.
Another thing that annoyed me about the Control Panel is that it always opens to the Global Settings, the configuration that takes effect when no program-specific configuration is set up. It would have been a better choice to have it automatically open with the current application's configuration active. After all, if you are launching the Control Panel while your NLE is active, you are likely doing so to modify a setting for that configuration.
The two issues above would have detracted a point from the Interface score. However, add the fact that the system tray icon code causes the side-effect of messing with mouse double-clicks in the system tray and it loses another point. I tested this issue on two separate computers, and both of them had the problem.
Intuitiveness : 5/5
There's not much here to detract from intuitiveness. If you can click buttons and turn wheels, you can use the ShuttlePRO V.2. The software is straightforward and easy to use as well. The fact that it always opens on Global Settings is a little confusing at first, but that point was already lost in the Interface category.
Features : 5/5
The software does what it needs to do and more. The macro functionality makes programming virtually anything possible. The control itself is also feature-rich. As previously mentioned, the alloy metal jog wheel makes tactile feel great and the rubber coating on the shuttle wheel is a great feature. Add to that the fact that the rubber feet keep the thing firmly planted where you put it, and you've got a device you'll have a hard time finding a problem with.
I also like the fact that the USB cord is quite long.
Documentation : 5/5
There's really not much documentation that's required here. I like the fact that Contour Design put a large fold-out in the box. Everything you need to know is right there.
Price vs. Value Ratio : 5/5
I've read some other reviews stating that this device is overpriced. I disagree. This is obviously a quality piece of equipment. Nothing about it smacks of being cheap. It can withstand being thrown around in a laptop bag without problems. It's well worth the $110 you pay for it. This device will easily pay for itself in just a few jobs with the time you'll save using it.
Reviewer's Tile : 0/5
No tilt in this review.
Overall : 5/5
I can't see giving the ShuttlePRO V.2 anything less than a 5 on an overall score. After using the ShuttlePRO V.2 for a few days, I simply cannot edit video without it. Enough said.
Don't hesitate. Order a ShuttlePRO V.2 now. No one who does any amount of video editing should be without it. This purchase is clearly a no-brainer.
