Introduction
Many years ago, I was sucked into the world of 3D graphics by a unique application from one of the leaders in 3D graphics at the time, Metacreations. Metacreations is history, but its products have scattered across the 3D software landscape. Poser is one of those applications.
Poser shares many interface elements with other applications that originated with Metacreations. It's a distinguished list that includes Bryce (the subject of an upcoming review) and Carrara. The fact that these applications have retained the interface that Metacreations designed for them is a tribute to that design. A few minutes behind the mouse with one of these applications is all that's required to realize how special the interface is and just how fun it is to use.
Poser is an application with unique abilities. It specializes in creating computer-generated people. Until version 5, Poser people were impressive, but they weren't completely realistic. Version 5 introduced many new features that elevated the bar, but some users were frustrated by some instability and other problems. Poser 6 moved the bar higher by introducing a host of new features, many of which add significantly to the realism of Poser figures. In my opinion, e frontier has hit a home run with this version.
