Flash (no pun intended) back to 1996. Microsoft was releasing MSN to the masses and Microsoft was looking for a way to bring a television-like experience to the Internet. They turned to a small software company named FutureWave. FutureWave had built an exciting new technology called FutureSplash and Microsoft was betting it was just the thing to make MSN stand out. They were right!

Fast forward to 2005. What was FutureSplash is now Flash MX Professional 2004, and it's every bit as revolutionary now as it was in 1996. Flash continues to redefine animation on the Internet. If you see animation on a Web site, chances are that it's Flash, but that doesn't mean that it was developed with Flash. There are many applications on the market (such as SWiSHzone.com's popular SWiSHmax), but only one is the premiere Flash development tool.

In this review, we'll look at what makes Macromedia Flash the most powerful application of its kind and the best choice for anyone who wants to truly harness the power of Flash.

Note: In this review, we will refer to Macromedia Flash as simply Flash. When we mention Flash, we mean the application, not the technology.
