Jimco Software Reviews - Sonic DVDit Professional 6 (continued)

Rating

Usability : 4/5
Usability gets a 4 out of 5, mainly because some operations can take several seconds to complete. For example, when you switch from one piece of media to another on the timeline, DVDit takes several seconds to select the new media.

Another ding on usability (although not at the loss of a point) due to the hokey sound file that DVDit plays when media and other objects are added. This sound is from an old version of Windows in the early 90s and I find it a bit cheesy. I wish Sonic had given you the option of disabling it.

Interface : 5/5
There's no way to give the interface less than a 5. If you don't like how it's arranged, you can completely move it around. The multiple-monitor support makes it even a better interface choice.

Intuitiveness : 4/5
For the most part, DVDit is an intuitive application. However, I did find myself hunting for the way to do common tasks from time to time.

Features : 5/5
All of your standard professional features are here. Add OpenDVD support to that and you have a package that is awfully hard to beat!

Documentation : 5/5
The documentation for DVDit is excellent. I wish there were a What's This? Help feature, but that doesn't detract enough from the quality for a point loss.

Price vs. Value Ratio : 5/5
There's a lot here for $400. In addition to a great professional-level DVD authoring environment, you also get eDVD, an application that adds features that no other authoring environment can offer you.

Reviewer's Tilt : 2/5
The only tilt came from usage of the previous version. I felt no bias in this review, but gave Reviewer's Tilt a score of 2 because of past experience.

Overall : 5/5
DVDit Professional 6 is a great application that far exceeds the capabilities of the previous version. The inclusion of OpenDVD support and eDVD make it a no-brainer for any serious DVD author.
