Introduction
Years ago I was messing with a screen recording program that generated Flash animations of applications running in Windows for the purpose of tutorials, etc. I showed one of my recordings to a friend of mine expecting him to be quite impressed by the result. Instead of being impressed, he showed me one that he had done using a different tool and I was absolutely blown away. Not only was the quality far better than the tool I had used, but he had the added benefit of high-quality audio narration. When I inquired about the tool he had used to create his recording, he told me that he had used Camtasia.
When I checked the price tag of Camtasia, I suffered a bit of sticker shock. Almost $300 was a lot of money for me (and still is!), but I just had to buy a copy anyway. I have never regretted that purchase, and Camtasia is one of the few products that is a must-upgrade every time a new version is released.
Recently, TechSmith released Camtasia Studio 4, and while the price tag is still a bit steep for some, there's quite simply no other application that can touch Camtasia in ease of use and in the quality of the final result. Camtasia 4 is, by far, the best Camtasia ever, and I'll show you why in this review.
