The usability of UASD is excellent once you get used to it. I've read reviews from some people who claim that it's awkward and doesn't work as you would think it should. From my perception, Uniden tried to make UASD work with the same methodology as the BC-246T itself. That approach makes the software easy to use once you understand how the scanner works, and the fact that they both deal with systems in the same way makes it a breeze to manage your scanner just the way you want as you grow with your radio.
Interface : 4/5
While I generally like the interface of UASD, as a matter of preference, I don't particularly like the color choice, nor do I like the font that was used. The interface would look much more polished had they used the system colors and fonts. Even with that subjective shortcoming, the interface is quite functional and complex settings that are rarely changed are tucked out of the way unless you need them.
Intuitiveness : 3/5
UASD can be hard to grasp at first, but I have a theory as to why that's the case. It's designed to program a dynamic memory scanner, and the concept of dynamic memory is alien to most people. It's a new concept and it takes a while to get your head around it. Once you do, however, it makes a lot more sense than a series of banks and it becomes quite intuitive over time.

UASD has the features necessary to program every aspect of your scanner. In addition, it adds the capability to save different configurations so that you can reprogram your entire scanner for new systems with just a couple of clicks.
Documentation : 2/5
Almost every piece of software I review these days falls short in the documentation department. UASD is no exception. Documentation on many of the terms used in UASD is available in the scanner's documentation, but it would have been great to have a walkthrough of programming the scanner. This area needs to be beefed up.
Price vs. Value Ratio : 5/5
UASD will run you $29.95. This is a great bargain, especially when compared with the much higher price of ARC246.

UASD is a great solution for programming and backing up your BC-246T. UASD has made it so easy to reprogram my 246T that I have experimented over and over with different configuration until I found the one that I liked best. It's great to know that if I decide that I really don't like the current configuration, I can crank up UASD and change it in a moment. If I don't like the new configuration, I can also go back to what it was with just a couple of clicks as well.
Highly recommended.
